Star Wars, Star Trek.- end of an era

Ironic that they both should end the same year..
I haven't seen either last episode yet..

How would you rate your these series:

"Surely will be missed!",
"Ho-hum entertainment--take the good with the bad"
"Thank goodness they're over",
"Star what?"

My wife has actually never seen Star Wars, and maybe one episode of Star Trek.. in viewership we are complete opposites, but I cannot honestly say she has missed all that much, except maybe "The Empire Strikes Back".. the only non-George Lucas written screenplay..

But for you Star Wars fans looking for some anime art:

I'm in the: they'll be missed, but thank goodness they're over group.
I loved it growing up, but feel it's long since time for something else to take it's place. With such a great vacuum from their leaving, something surely will; I just hope it's not another stinking reality show. *grumble grumble*

Nice expensive site there, E. But I'd be more interested in cels from the Star Trek TV show! Got any links for that? ^_^ (I'd be lookin' for Spock or McCoy btw)

I didn't know that Empire Strikes Back wasn't written by Lucas. Maybe that explains why it is the tightest, most enjoyable movie of the 6. I give Lucas a lot of credit for coming up with the Star Wars story and universe, but I can't help wishing that the other screenplays had been written by someone else as well so that they would have had the chance to reach their full potential. I certainly don't have a lot of affection for episodes 1 and 2 (haven't seen 3 yet) and much of that is due to the abysmal dialogue. But saying even that much pains me greatly because I so wanted to love those movies as Star Wars has been dear to me since I was a kid. I'm a total sucker for a Joseph Campbell-esque hero's journey. But unfortunately I just can't ignore the flaws in execution. So, it's probably for the best that they are over. Now if Lucas would just stop fiddling with (translation: ruining) the original trilogy, I would be much happier.

Yeah, it was written in part by Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark. One of the best action movies of the 20th century, I might add.

A bunch of friends went to watch this last night, but I didn't feel like waiting two hours in lines and such for it. I did get advance tickets for Phantom Menace, so that has colored my opinion of the outing ever since. Apparently -- and I've been hearing about this basically all day -- it's not so bad if you just ignore the parts that are horribly written. Enjoyable at least. I'll probably catch on the weekend over the wheezing, nerdtastic masses finish with it.

And I quote: "It's full of those moments that just make you cringe, even though you know *you* didn't just deliver a horrible line."
