Fan Dub sources

Hello, Sorry wrong title I ment Fan Sub's not Dub's

Here in the good old USA we are at the mercy of the big anime companys for most of our anime which of course limits what are exposed to.

I have seen a lot of posts on Rubberslug talking about Fan Subs that most of us have never had access to.

Can you fill us anime starved members as to some sources for Fan Sub's of series that most likely will never get brought over here.

I know this may seem like a silly question. But what are Fan subs? In Australia we get even less information and releases that you get over in the US. Please enlighten me!
What are Fan subs?
Fan subs are anime that has been Subtitled (in English or another language) over the original Japanese shows by fans.

Fansubs:

For current things you'll want to get BitTorrent up and running and poke around these websites:

http://www.animesuki.com
http://www.baka-updates.com

For older things, the best thing to do might be to fish through newsgroups. This may be complicated if you've never done it before. I use Giganews. Cheap, fast, convenient.

http://www.giganews.com

You'll probably be most interested in the newsgroups called:

alt.binaries.multimedia.anime
alt.binaries.anime
alt.binaries.anime.repost (not sure if that's right?)

Hope that helps. BitTorrent is easier. Try that first. Finally, don't forget to buy the things you really like when they come out on DVD. It's the cool thing to do.

I have to add a shameless plug here for my fansubbing group, Shinsen-Subs.

When you get to be a pro at the torrent thing, I recommedn Azureus for downloading needs.
