anime expo or comic con?
If you only had time or funds to go to one which one would you go to?
Roy
Hello Roy,
As one who goes to both since I live in the Los Angeles area. It really depends on what you are truly interested in.
AX is mostly for those interested in Anime, They have a lot of the cel dealers attend. You also get a lot of partisipation from the studios such as Geneon (Pioneer) J.C. Staff and others as well as a lot of Anime related music and some of the creators of Anime & Manga attend as guests.
Comic-con is one of the largest conventions in the world. Anime is only about 10% on it. Last year only 2 dealers (Anime link & Nichibei anime club)had cels. Adv was the only anime panel. All of the big comic companys are there and a large group of comic artists and creators show each year. There are tons of dealers with everything from comic books, action figures and lots of artwork. In recent years a lot of movie & tv stars & directors attend promoting their latest projects. There are a lot more panels held at comic-con.
I have enjoyed both conventions though because I have been collecting comic artwork for so long I have attend many more Comic-cons.

Both this year. I've been to Comic-Con a few times, especially the last two years. Not a lot of Anime Cel dealers, a few that sell American cels (ie. He-Man, Batman animated). Comic-Con does show Anime on some of the rooms for people to relax in. First Anime Expo coming up!
What matters the most is your funding.
Depending on how much you have available to you, you might want to research how many and which cel dealers will attend each of the cons.
I did this for the last con I went to and believe me it helps. If your primary goal is to go to a con, HUNT and SHOP, then you need to plan. I won't assume you live in the same cities as the cons, so you will travel, lodging and food expenses... allof this BEFORE you ever set foot in the dealer's room.
As such, research carefully, after the costs of the traveling, con admission, food and other misc expenses... what really matters for a cel hunter is how much they have available to SPEND on cels!
Good luck.
Is anyone going to go to either of the upcoming November cons in Toronto or Ottawa?
