color setting or color design cel?

Has anyone ever heard of a color setting or color design cel. I have found several cels described as this and I am not sure if they are original production material or fan made. They are definitely not regular production pieces because they do not have any cut numbers and the subject matter doesn't match any scene I am familiar with. The artwork is funny characatures of mecha from the show. They are done on standard size cels and I can see the registration holes.

Could these be pre-production tests done by the animators to check on character designs and colors? I am definitely going to bid on them but I don't want to over-bid if they are actually just fan made pieces.

Hi Mokman, you've really got to post links to the pictures otherwise all our responses are just theoretical. I have 20 or so colour test sheets, there were made by the studio and many are on scraps of acetate, no generic size. Most of the trace lines have been printed/copied onto the acetate in the normal way but the images are straight from the settei sheets and have been coloured in different combinations.
To accompany thse I also have some design cels of character heads- not used in the anime but made as referance for the studio artists (I pressume).
Not all have registration holes so there's no way I can define EXACTLY what they were used for.

At present I don't have pics to show but I'm working on them. They are from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and will find their way into my 'JoJo Specials' gallery in due course.

As I said, these are genuine and very rare so you could pick up a worthy collectors batch with those items you mentioned. Best of luck!

Thanks for the input. I have come to believe that these cels are genuine. I have found very similar images in some books that I have that are full of production artwork from the show. The style and quality appear to be consistant.
