Help with Disney Sericel????
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me answer a question about a Disney Lady and Tramp sericel I recently acquired. It has some kind of flaw(?) and I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is and if it affects the value of this in any way. Lady has a black "smudged" line in front of her chest area and I can't tell if this is something drawn beneath the cel or what. I know nothing about these so am hoping someone's expertise in this area can help me. It first looked like a drawing under the cel, but the smudgy black lines seem to also extend down Lady's leg and these lines appear to be on top of the cel. I received this framed so I haven't been able to see exactly what it looked like before framing. I've included a couple of pics below:

Thanks so much for any info

Hello Dilly,
When most cels are made they start off with a sketch which they place a cel sheet over. They then mark the black lines of the sketch on the front of the cel which is what is damaged on your cel. The cel with the lines is then turned over and then painted like a paint by numbers painting.
There are profession restorers that can repair the damage.
Good luck,
Joe
Hello, Dilly
This looks like someone traced over the sericel and the marker bled though to the sericel.
The lines don't match the rest of the sericel so therefor I would say that some kid tryed to trace this sericel and the paper shifted as they were tracing and the ink was still wet thats why the lines don't match up and are in a different spot and not lined up.
Sorry for the bad news but I've seen it before.
Roy
Hi all,
Thanks so much for your help although its not exactly good news. I was going to list this on ebay - wondering if there would be a market for "error" cels? Does the flaw absolutely destroy any resale value?

you can sometimes get it off if you are real careful.
you can take alcohol on a soft towel not paper and blot it "don't wipe" on the spots that have the marker and sometimes it will come off if you wipe you can take the lines off the sericel so blot easy take your time don't rush.
Only use enough alcohol to wet the cloth not dripping wet and don't let the alcohol get on the backside, it will melt the paint off the cel.
Try water first sometimes the markers are water based and will come off with just water, try this first on a small spot.
You can't hurt it anymore than it already is so try to clean it.
If you send it off to be cleaned it will cost you more than it's worth so try to clean it yourself and save yourself some money for new cels.
If it comes off the value will not change if not you can cut the price in half.
If it don't come off atleast you tryed.
