Video Game Promo Cels
I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of video game promo cels. I found an auction on E-bay last night for a promo from "Tales of Symphonia". I was interested in it because I loved the game and the character designs were done by Kousuke Fujishima.
In reading the description, it sounded like it was a reproduction cel. The seller didn't know anything about cels from the sounds of it. They did give the dimensions as 14x11 which would make it pretty much standard for a cel with a background. The bordering looked the same as the Rilezu cels I have...
I also saw an auction for a "Resident Evil 4" cel that I wasn't so interested in. I kind of wondering how often cels like these come out when the games do and if you'd really call them cels?
I have seen such cels before and they must be fairly rare. However I'm sure there are various 'types' of these cels and by reading a sellers general description, I wouldn't know how to tell the difference. I've seen sericels and Rilezu which both look similar. One is worth $5 whereas the other is $300...
If you're unsure about what you're buying, investigate it a little more or don't pay too much in case it's a mass-repro
I'm not sure about tales of symphonia but i know with resident evil 4, soul calibur, one of the megaman games there was a croma cel that was given out with preorders (a mass produced, though they said limited edition 5000)
*nod* While some video games (mostly older ones) have actual cels done for the FMV sequences, for this new "tales" game, I'd say, when in doubt, Google search for them.
Zag,
I know that there are actual cels from a lot of the older games. I actually own 2 from one of the "Battle Athletes" games...
I'm fairly sure that there aren't going to be any real cels from any of the FMV sequences from TOS. There might be some douga and probably settei floating around though...
The promo cels I have a question about seem to be more hanken style. I don't actually know that most of these cels look like. I think I'm trying to find out if they are like the "Akira" or "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" promos I have from when those two movies were put on DVD. If they are, then I don't see the point in picking them up...
