the poll of non-moving pictures

I love being able to put backgrounds with my cels- I think it really helps bring out the mood of the cel. The shared gallery here on RS has been a real boon to me since I can now find backgrounds that help me recreate the shots that my cels come from. I can either use the background as is or apply some photoshop magic to create a better fit, like this one here: http://keiticel.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=96001 .
I always show the cel without background in the thumbnail view, and add the background for the regular view. And I always note what I am using for the background and I give credit to backgrounds that have been "borrowed" and their owners.
I do tend to crop excess space (in the scan, not the actual cel) if I feel the shot benefits from it.
But, that's just what makes me happy. With everything else, it depends on the individual ^_^

To Gab,

For me it is mostly a physical cel being cropped, lesser feelings go out to the original background that is cropped to fit the cel. I know for cel framing this happens sometimes ( maybe is necessary for effect or balance) and can't be helped. When I see cels having been cropped physically however, it just ruins it for me.

Scans are fine and cropping or arranging cels is cool for display. Studios do it for production anyway, along with lighting, color mixing, etc.
So, why can't collectors?

I realize that some people prefer to show the registration holes, cel numbers, "run-off", etc., but I don't mind, as long as it is not a gross distortion or misrepresentation of characters actual image size (i.e., Something zoomed in so BIG that it looks a like a close up or something)

E, I'm with you don't ever cut any of your artwork for any reason it kills the value and the artwork. E? even backgrounds.
Back when Disney first started to sell animation cel art no one would buy a cel so he had some gallerys make up big scenes called c?(I'll come back with the name) with a lot of cut cels and put them together in a frame for a good price and folks bought them so no one cared about cutting them then but in the 70s and 80s the prices for cels shot though to roof and has not went down yet maybe slowed down a bit but still going up.
But as with all collectibles the condition is most of the cost so uncut is best always.
As for RS gallery pics, That is your gallery put your pics anyway you like.
They can always email you for higher res. pics if they want them to ID them for you or whoever.
If they ask nice!!
Hey we need to put a size of item on the cel, on the load up page, you know like the size of the cel one? OOOO' Jason add on.
To cut or not to cut? Thats a no brainer. DUHHH
NO CUT

Here is one example:

See I told you I would be back but it looks like E beat me to the Animation Dictionary.
That's the name I was looking for(Courvoisier Gallery) in SF.CA. in the 1930s,40s.
But you know, Those setups are worth a small mint if you can find them ugly or not.
Dam E I'm going to have to fix my post's faster in the future.
Thanks for watching my back E.
Lowering my head to a bow for E. I'll say goodbye for now.
