today, vote. tomorrow, recount.

Actually, they're both Cambridge elites. They both came from Yale. In fact, the both Bush presidents are from Yale. They didn't get there by being at the top of their class and receiving scholarship money, either. They're both super rich. Both of them could buy all our parents' houses and turn them into golf courses, like in The Goonies. Actually, only Kerry would turn your house into a golf course. Bush would prefer to use it as an illegal internment camp.

Bush is actually a pretty nice guy. The only real reasons not to like him mostly stem from things that the average American isn't too interested in hearing about.

A well-reasoned list of those things is here:

http://www.sensibleforeignpolicy.net/letter.html

I
don't blame the politicians for the way our country is, I blame the people. When the culture emphasizes style (reality TV, media lunacy, corny nationalism, and flag-waving military adventures) over substance (a basic understanding of foreign and domestic policy) you have a problem.

Example? How many clicked on the link above and saw the paragraphs of text and just scrolled to the bottom to see how long it was? Hmm... not a good sign.

However, this is not an easy thing to fit into a 15 second sound bite. How do you tell people to turn off the TV and go help their kids with their homework? You don't. No one likes a lecture, but some people are in dire need of one. Your other choice? A real political weasel. Would he be just as crooked as the current prez? You bet. You either have bad policy making or confused policy making. Neither is a very palatable option.

Much of Bush's cabinet is changing this administration. I wasn't a big fan of Bush, but I am very strongly against various policies that clearly came from some of his henchmen. With those gone, our country has a fighting chance to charm its way out (in lack of a better word) of the current global situtation.

And the Christian right is no more evil than various extreme sectors of the society, many of whom insist that, well, the Christian right is inherantly evil. The extreme right is no more evil than the extreme left is lazy and uneducated.... which is to say, it comes down to individuals. The people in charge on both sides can be fairly nasty, but the people themselves are just trying to get by. (C'mon, you've seen enough giant robot political dramas to know it's true.) No one wants to hear that though, they want to hear the sound bites, one-liners, and zingers.

So, as I said, the worst part of the whole thing is 50% of the people hate the other 50%. What's worse is that most of these 95% don't have a very good reason to do so.

oh...If there was only a Bush/Jerry Highbreed...

I like Kerry cause he's pro-steam cell reaserch (Wich I know some of you are against, but Isn't it okay if the featus was already dead and not just made for the reaserch? Maybe once you have a child with Child Diabities you will understand)

Reply to: "(evil catholic who believes in abortion, stem cell research, and divorce, giving a bad name to us all)" Aren't Catholics suppose to be pro-life? That's weird....

And A question bout' Bush, if he's pro-life, than how could he send all those dudes to their deaths in texas?

Bush won, so nothing will change....I guess...unless they draft us...(But I'm a girl so hurray for me)
So I guess we should be happy that aboriton might become illegal...

Both Kerry and Bush have good parts, now if only they could be mixed together... :)

sailor_gohan,

That exact type of attitude is one major reason I'm proud I didn't vote republican:

"serves him right (evil catholic who believes in abortion, stem cell research, and divorce, giving a bad name to us all"

Sorry, but that compliment disgusts me. No, offense...Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but religion is about growing through understanding, NOT HATRED.

Look on the bright side (ducking that chair coming my way)... if Kerry had gotten elected he wouldn't have had the "popular vote" on his side, and he would have been facing a Congress that is now clearly a Republican majority sworn to reject and filibuster every policy that he'd present without a mandate.

He would have had greater problems, than Bill Clinton did even in his worst days, trying to get any of his reforms passed in a Republican dominated Congress. He would have been stalled at every point and policy that he put forth with no respite, except the power of veto as a counter measure.

And the Republicans would have rejected him and done this with impunity. How could Kerry have passed any tax raises on the rich, health care programs for the middle-class, or any of a number domestic issues crossing party lines without congressional support?.. He couldn't have. Nothing would have gotten done. He would only be good for foreign affairs and treaty signings for the next 4 years. Those are political realities he would have faced, a great but lonely journey on an uphill fight against Republican family values.

At least now the Republicans with such a clear majority from top to bottom, cannot provide any further excuses for failed policies.. none. If they drop the ball (arguably again), then there will be no excuses..complaints, or blame that they could consider with their failed agenda.

You know what, I am catholic, and you know I think Kerry is a Bad Catholic. Kerry alienated himself from the catholic church, and thus lost my vote and a lot of other Catholic votes. And I did take offence to your comment Tokyo Anime 2.
