Ratings acting funky...not in a good way
I've noticed this with a few of the galleries that I've rated recently. I'll give the curator a 10 out of 10 for something...only to watch their rating DROP when I reload the page. How can this be, if I'm giving them the highest points possible? For example, I just rated a gallery and watched their "Site Design" score drop from 8.18 to 7.77 - even after I'd given them a 10. Is this just a glitch in the program, or is there some higher power of math at work that I don't understand...perhaps calculus just wasn't enough *lol*
Not sure why this specifically happens, but I do know that the ratings have some very basic "throwing out highs and lows" behavior going on. Throwing out highs and lows is less of a problem now because you can't quickly create two dozen accounts with matching e-mail addresses to vote. If someone really had the time to do this, I'd say that that person's time and energy is being very poorly spent.
Never thought making that ratings thing that it would ever be such a point of conflict. Seemed so harmless at the time... =/
I'm a pretty active voter and I've noticed that too.
I think it has something to do with calculating averages. I've found out that when I disable and then again enable the rating feature after I receive a new vote, the ratings change.
Maybe it then recalculates averages?
(Am I making sense here? >_< )
I tried Uende's suggestion of turning the rating feature off and then back on again, and I noticed that the ratings changed, too.
Me too, I tried it and it seems my ratings went up. Only slightly, so I see no need to rush to correct it.;)
