rubberslug as a windows desktop?
Here's something that might be fun:
How many people out there would be interested in sharing some of their desktop-worthy background cels as 800x600 pixel backgrounds. A fellow coder suggested that I make a quick application that downloads backgrounds to your desktop from this site and make the desktop background an image from a gallery on this site. Future plans might include a screensaver showing images of recently updated galleries or just your favorite galleries. The shared desktop gallery would resemble the shared background gallery we already have in place.
What do you think? Sound like something you'd want to contribute to?

You can count me in on that. Can't even begin to tell you how often I make a cel I want to get my desktop....y'know, a sort of sensory saturation period :)
Would it really be worth the hassle of writing an entire applet though? I mean, if a shared gallery were created, one need but click the desired pic, right click (or whatever you mac guys do...ah yes, witchcraft... :)) and bam, instant desktop. No need to waste hours of your life coding it bud, at least, imo.

Whenever I scan in new cels, I always make two files - one the jpeg at 350x280 or so for Rubberslug, and the other an 800x600 bitmap file. I wrote myself a little application awhile back that runs in the background and every 5 minutes randomly chooses one of the bitmaps in my cels directory and makes it my desktop wallpaper. I don't know if that's quite what people are looking for here, but I'd be happy to share that application.

Another voice to the approval chorus!
Hee, I have my #1 wishlist cel as my background for a couple weeks now. There are many others on RS that I'm itching to get as my bg.
Hey, that's pretty cool.
I'm writing this in .net but it requires that people download the .net distro along with the application. I don't suppose you're a .net coder are you, OnWingedFeet? It's... uh... worth 300 points? 350? =)
Right now I have an application that downloads from a url on this site and sets whatever it gets as the background. It's pretty neat, but it doesn't quite work automatically yet. It'll probably be something that works in the background and does the downloading every 24 hours or so. Future versions will allow you to set the download or selectively download backgrounds from certain genres or galleries.
If someone out there is a c# coder and wants to take over the code after I get done with the initial version, let me know and you'll get full co-authoring credit for the app.
Not too much time to work on it at the moment, but I'll try to get this out by next week. I still have lots of other Rubberslug things on my plate, but this idea seemed too much fun to pass up.
