thumbanil maker solution

Having problems making thumbnails? Log out and log back in. It will fix it.

Okay, here's the long explanation. Basically, there are two systems running on Rubberslug right now. When you're working with the links module or the shared background gallery, or making thumbnails, you're using the new system (call this 2.0). When you're doing anything else (like lurking in the forum) you're using the old system (call this 1.0).

When you log in, you're logged into both RS 1.0 and RS 2.0. Here's the catch. If you don't do anything that uses the new system for about 20 minutes or so, RS will log you out automatically. However, you will still *appear* to be logged in to both systems. In reality, you're only logged into the 1.0 system.

For security, the thumbnail maker checks your identity. If you are logged off (timed out), you look like nobody. Nobodies get kicked back to the default member page. That's why this happens if you sit around logged in for a while and then you try to make a thumbnail. So, to fix this, log out and log back in. Rubberslug will know who you are again and will gladly make your thumbnails.

Hope this helps. I'll fix this soon, but I'm a little too tied up to fix it tonight. Thanks for your patience.

Whoa, I learned something new! My head hurts.

Thanks for the lesson. So there are TWO Rubberslug personalities for us to deal with. @_@

RS 2.0 seems to be more finicky than her older sister, ne?

Why is it a she? I don't want a girl website. Pffft. I want my website to smell like motor oil and have bad table manners.

But actually, old 1.0 stuff is duct-taped together in a rather odd way. It all works -- mostly -- just a really roundabout way sometimes. Reason why new 2.0 stuff has been delayed for two years is that I only recently realized how I'd manage to develop a new site while supporting all the old stuff. Make two separate web sites. It should be mostly transparent to everyone, but there are two separate websites operating within Rubberslug, they just link to each other a lot. Now I can finally start implementing all those things I've been promising for years (sales, better gallery creation tools, etc. etc. etc.) instead of just constantly patching a 3-year old architecture.
