Notice a lot of people like Words Worth
We love WW b/c the character designs are great! Yes we miss the times when Rei-Lan, Twin Dolls and other hentai (yes we enjoy hentai, thank you very much and are proud to admit it) had some excellent animation and character designs. Hey if you are old enough hentai is entertaining, nothing wrong with watching it.
The newer animes just look BLEAH! Too many of them look the same as each other, Noir, Sakura Wars, Tenchi in Toyko, ROD, .Hack, etc... gone are the days when you could DEFINITELY distinguish the character designs were done by so and so.
Certainly miss Mikimoto, Sonoda, Takada, Hirano and others. The only ones remaining from times gone by are Rumiko, Satoshi, Go, and a few others like Kawajiri.
Well no, no one on RS has cornered the WW market, only one collector has and it is GREEDY Yann the guy who owns but no longer maintains the virus infected Animanga site.
Hark back to the old skool Yay! You tell 'em Momo!
In the 80's and 90's designers had a name for themselves because of their great designs which were distinguished by style and flair.
WW has some of these features (as do numerous hentai) which is part of its appeal. I can get bored with samey designs unless they're particularly lush and WW has this 'lush' feel. I think it's down to the colour pallete and reflections on surfaces which don't make it flat.
Check Yoshiaki Kawajiri's general output; I reckon he's the reflection master- see the dougas to get an idea! So much skill.
I think the thing with WW is that although it's blatant fantasy (animal creatures and medieval setting), it's also deep rooted in realism and down-to-earth characters. That makes it engaging.
