2all... 2?sWHY do you collect

cels from whatever series it is that you collect? WHAT fueled the flames of your passion for collecting?

IMHO, it is simple nostalgia of younger years and the bittersweet memories from then. Years long since passed from childhood, high school and undergraduate years when I wandered aimlessly in life, moreso than now. ^_^

When it comes to collecting, I tend to pick one character from a series (my favorite)and just focus on that character. Of course I now realize what I've been doing is collecting on blond and redheaded males.

I was hoping someone would discuss WHAT motivated them to collect anime cels in general and WHY they continue to do so.

Personally, I don't care for those who collect just to show off that they have this or that character. What I find worse are collectors who collect what seems like every pretty boy or girl character they can get their hands on. Even when they've never even seen the series they've just obtained cels for. Kind of makes me wonder what is the underlining motivation for them to collect the way they do.

Suure there isn't any one standard to collect cels, but am I the ONLY one who finds it ODD when people display their collections containing only pretty boys or girls and all they do is discuss how this or that character is so... cute or cool? I doubt it, anyone else have two cents to share?

i started collecting becausing im an artist myself, an art fan, and an anime fan. Its only natural that i would eventually discover cels and become a huge cel collecting freak. When it comes to cels i buy what i can afford (im sure not all of us can say that) I try to stay in range of whats in my wallet and leave some leftover. I collect cels from my favorite series, usually of a certain character but i tend to get whatever catches my eyes for that series. I like collecting cels from shows/OVAs/movies with art i truly love. When i first started collecting, i would get whatever i could find of my favorite series. That was bad due to me not having that wallet conscience i have now. But i love my cels!!!!

Didn't answer in the way you were hoping? Did respond to another thread Spinizuey started, on "Which came first, the cels or the addiction to anime?" that might have contained a little bit more of what you wanted.

As far as pretty boys and pretty girls go though, there seems to be an abundance of that in anime. Are you (not that there's anything wrong with this) a mostly mech or background collector and your gallery is a pretty boy/girl free zone?

I'm still kind of new to collecting. Is it considered taboo by your peers not to have seen what you collect on? (Should I start a new thread for that?) I've seen all save one of the series I have cels of (numerous times) and started out with one cel from each series. Didn't have a gallery before Rubberslug.

While I don't know what other collectors motivations are for collecting, I don't find anything wrong with collecting on your favorite characters, whether they're cute short
spikey haired guys or pretty turquoise haired girls with big chests. Whatever makes you happy.
