image scaler/password zoom
Hey gang.
The two new functions sort of work, but not yet in a way that I really like.
You've probably already noticed, but we have this thing that automatically scales images down and splits them up into 4 pieces. This is designed as a deterrant against image thefts and also as a way to make your site more friendly to lower bandwidth connections.
Another feature is the password protection for full-size scans, which has been requested for quite some time now. If you turn this feature on (it's off by default), visitors will be required to know the gallery password before they are allowed to view full-size scans by clicking on the "medium" size scaled down scans. This functionality does not apply to anyone who has turned the auto-scaling feature off.
So here's how we are balancing image theivery and image quality.
Goal: Accessibility - Turn on autoscaling and turn off password requirement for large scans.
Goal: Image Protection - Turn on autoscaling and turn on password requirement for large scans.
Goal: Image Quality - Turn off autoscaling (or leave it on and people can click to zoom) and turn off password requirement for large scans.
Issues:
- The zoom part isn't really done yet. I'd like each "zoomed" image to open up in a window sized exactly to fit the scan. Ideally, you could click anywhere in the new window to close it.
- The autoscaler should be set to reduce the smaller dimension between height and width to a fixed number instead of always affecting width. This should fix the problem of horizontal pan cels scaling the same as normal cels and looking much smaller.
- Hotlinking still possible. After I take a swing at it, it should be impractical to link to RS images outside of the RS site.
If you have any other thoughts about how we can improve this feature, please post below. Thanks.

Done.... but I'd like to also add the ability to pick if you want to stick with the 400 default or go with a smaller 200, 250, 300, or 350.
Just wondering, do you have an approximate ETA on allowing small sizes (i.e. 200) I haven't quite given up on my gallery yet ^^;
Thanks!

Oh yeah, I didn't finish this yet, did I? I'll probably work on it tomorrow. BTW: Tuesdays and Thursday are usually the days I can devote to little patches. It's a pretty easy fix.... I must admit that I have been quiet because I borrowed my friend's Playstation while he went to go visit his girlfriend (or something like that) in Japan for a month. Was taking a break from Rubberslug stuff for a few days. =p
Side note: Disgaea is fun. I highly recommend anyone who likes anime-style comedy to go buy it or rent it. Any game that has comical "next episode" voice overs that parody every genre of Japanese television at the end of each chapter of the game gets full marks from me.
edit: didn't get to this today, had some work come up this afternoon that just got done. I'll make sure it gets done this weekend.

Sizes ranging from 200-400 in increments of 50 are in. Gee, that was easier than I thought. I'm suspicious though. I have this eerie feeling like there's a bug in there somewhere because it was a little *too* easy.
Well, if there is I'm sure I'll hear about it. *grin* The other feature I wanted to implement (opening a window of a perfect size for the image, instead of just a blank white browser window) is something that will take some time.
In the meantime, I'll get to work on feature images. (Whee!)
