little short for a samurai, aren't you?

If no one made the connection, Tom Cruise has a new movie out that dumps him in turn of the century Japan as he tries to modernize an army of sword-wielding angry people.

In

I heard it was really slow moving and epic, like Braveheart, but I'll definately go see it. Kenshin's got me hooked on the samurai!

Get the Samurai Trilogy with Toshiro Mifume. Couldn't they find someone else for this role? I'll probably see it anyway.

The short answer is no, because there are no bankable Asian dramatic actors. So, they find a story that includes a white American military officer so that they can plug in whichever big name they want.

A larger question is, is it possible to cast Asians in American film without them being ninjas, computer experts, or comic sidekicks? I don't go whining that my rights are being violated, but it is a bit of blatant racism.

Or forget Asians, is it possible for the Machine to film anything in the entire Eastern Hemisphere -- Russia included -- that isn't about either a war or "quirky foreigners"?
