How do you display your cels?

For all of the years I've been collecting, I've only ever kept my cels in celbooks. Have any of you displayed your cels in frames, or in other ways? I'd love to see some pictures, as well as tips on the kind of materials you used. I'm always so worried that displaying them will damage/fade them...

PS this is such a dumb question, but... how do I upload an avatar icon next to my name?

Hi Just Van,

I store my cels the same as you, in books. I tried framing a couple freebie cels but no matter where I placed them in the house they would fade. I have a lot of windows though.

There are no dumb questions. Asking questions is how we learn. To set an image for your avatar you:

1) Make sure you log in
2) Go to your "My Profile" page
3) You will see several sub titles for different categories, Personal, Gallery, Modules, Community and Market" Find the subtitle entitled "Gallery"
4) As you look down in the "Gallery" box you will see, Gallery Settings, Manage Exhibits, Color & Layout, Edit Site Graphics and a couple other titles.
5) Select the "Edit Site Graphics" link
6) This page has three sub categories, Select Page To Edit, Upload Graphics, and File Management. Select "Gallery Listing" in the pull down menu under "Select Page To Edit" title and press the "GO" button. The page will refresh
7) Under the "Upload Graphics" subtitle, select your new image. Choose your image then click either the "Upload New Image" or "Preview In New Window", (Grey buttons) located at the bottom of the page.
8) There you go.

Best,

Matt

Thanks Mattness! Because it was listed as "Link" vs. "Avatar" I never saw it/realized that was my profile/avatar pic. I'll mess around with it more later, but at least now I know where it is!

As for displaying cels, I've heard there are special types of glass you can use to protect from the UV rays, but I've never gotten that complicated... I do sometimes wish I could display one or two of my cels though... of course the ones I want to display are the ones I'm also the most worried about damaging lol.

You could always have fan cels made of the cels you own and then display the fan cels instead. That way, you won't feel guilty that you are "ruining" the originals.

Framing, especially with cels, is a complicated process involving floating cels, especially those with multiple unstuck layers. I recommend not bringing your cels to a craft store like Michaels as I have heard horror stories where they trim and glue cels.

Yeah, I've heard of people who cut their cels down to frame them and I'm just... like... WHYYYYY. That's what mattes are for! Use the matte to frame it out how you want without damaging the cel! Sigh.

I suppose they'll just stay in my book for now. I guess one thing I could do is make super high-res scans of them and print them out on shiny paper and frame those... seems a bit cheap, but might be an okay compromise...
