When placing an offer on an intem in the market...?

When placing an offer on an item in the market, how long does the seller have to accept or decline my offer? And if they do nothing, how long until the offer is cancelled or nullified? I just don't want to make an offer to find he accepted it two months down the road when I totally forgot I even bid on it and no longer wish to own it.
