Silent Auctions

I haven't posted in a real long time as I really haven't added anything to my collection in years, in fact, what was once one of the best collections around, has diminished almost into non-existence.

That said, I've experienced every type of sell and buy scenario you can think of ranging from buying from private collectors, friends, various auction sites both here and abroad in English, Japanese, and even French. Commissioned cels produced, etc., etc.

I've bought from dealers directly off and online, and have even traded with them. Living in Japan had it's benefits as well, as I've had access to the best anime cel stores personal and up close as well as the dealers and collectors that live there, when I was there. I understood the market up and down and in and out...

All that said, nothing burns me up more than "Silent Auctions"...

Especially when I want to bid on something of course =) and the seller not only has made it a silent auction with a posted "minimum price", but then goes on to tell you that there is a "reserve" as well!..

This is the most exploitative whore mongering way to sell imaginable. Although, I really want to plop down a ton of cash on something (my friends can guess what that is, but just by looking at my site, I guess anyone could) I don't want to call out the site or the dealer that I've had a great relationship with over the years, and have purchased some great, great cels from him, and truly appreciate his quality and selection. I am very disappointed to see this type of selling behavior.

Silent Auctions with Reserves!! Man that really gets me..(pet peeve)

I just wanted to get that off of my chest... *o*.

I know the Gunnm art you mean and I'm going to be there in person where the auction is taking place - but I'll not even try to bid on that as I know it will be some insane price in the end.

Yeah, I do not like the reserve because, even if you offer a fair amount (or what you feel is fair), there's always a good chance that, even if you are the highest bidder, you won't win. With this seller, I feel that it's a 50/50 situation - sometimes I am able to get great items for reasonable prices, and other times, nothing.

I dunno..I guess I'm one of those people who feels that, if one seller doesn't want my money, there's always several more places that will. It's hard if it's something that you especially want, but the only thing you can do is bid what you feel comfortable bidding and hope for the best. And if things work out, maybe one day he'll be willing to sell it to you for your price.
