Short but interesting piece by a person who collects other kinds of anime-related stuff and would have more cels and sketches if he had the money and energy. Ends: "if you're serious about building a pretty cool cel collection, now's a great time to do it, because you can get some really cool stuff for not a lot of money, and be the envy of every Otaku on the block."
Link included to a Mike O'Toole column that I missed when it ran in March that concludes, "cel collecting is slowly but surely dying. I still like them a lot, but I haven't bought a new cel in a pretty long time, simply because they don't make them anymore."
Heh. And Andy Warhol has been dead since 1987. And I read somewhere that Disney stopped using cels too.
Nothing really new in either that anime art collectors don't already know, and the breezy, dismissive tone of both is off-putting. Still, columns like these are worth reading if only to see what anime fans in general think about us.
