Restoration?
Does anyone know of a reputable cel restorer? There was a bit of a disaster with one of my large pan cels. It was exposed to light for a while and the lines faded a lot (so much for UV glass :/)
The paints are fine and the lines are still visible (just faded), so I think someone skilled could repair it. Any help would be appreciated.
S/R Labs might be able to restore the lines. You could at least email and see what they think. S/R Labs is excellent at restoration, but they are pricey and it takes a while to get your artwork back. Their URL is www.srlabs.com and you should be able to email them a scan or photo and see if it's worth sending the cel to them.
Probably best to do the restoration now in case the lines get any worse. If the lines completely go, I don't believe there's any real way to restore the lines.

Thank you very much, I will look into this company. I do want to save it before it just becomes junk, good thing I caught it before it was too late (phew).
Just a warning to anyone else who wants to (or has) framed their art: UV protection glass comes in different grades of filtering. The cheaper, the less effective. It's best to ask for "museum quality" glass when you frame. Even so, no glass is 100% UV protective. That's why you don't often see big, uncovered/unfiltered windows in museums. Hang your pieces so they aren't coming in direct contact with natural light.
Hi,
I had a cel restored from S/R labs, so I hope this helps you. They're the best when it comes to this, but they're slow, very slow. Communication is even worse, you'll get worried as hell that they scammed you, but don't, all is fine. My cel took half a year and I sent it only for framing. They recommended line restoration. Needless to say I never got to the framing part. This procedure cost $250. The way it's done is, they paint the lines directly on top of the cel. The result is great, however I'm not sure as to how long the lines are going to last because the ink doesn't seem to be waterproof it can be taken off. But then again I guess you could expect that if they made a mistake of you're unhappy.
So since you had your cel framed, I'm guessing you would want the restoration. Just be patient. Good luck!
