$1000 is high, but cels can sell for a lot more. It's not uncommon for certain cels, especially hankens(commercial artwork) and anything Miyazaki touched to hit $10K. Take a look at some of the Ghibli artwork on Mandarake's BWA this time around.

I think that you should just buy things that you really like. If you buy stuff just because it's cheap, you'll end up regreting the purchase and possibly losing out on something you really wanted because you spent your money on the other items.
