What is a Lithograph?

Can someone please explain what is a lithograph? I'm interested in one at Mandarake, but would like more info before forking over $700.00. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, a lithograph is a limited edition printed image made by the studio of a certain character or scene. I think most images were made specifically for the lithograph. I'm surprised one would be so expensive, but since the only lithographs I have are a few Disney ones, I'm not really an expert.

I'm not an expert on liths or any thing but you might want to go down to your local frame shop/art gallery and ask a few questions. some times they can tell you exactly what you want to know. $700 does seem on the high end but I have seen them up in the thousands at the WB stores(when they were open).

Hi Rhey,
"Fine Art Printing", which includes the process of lithography, is more than just a copy.. It is work! Don't be fooled by the "printing" word in Fine Art, it is not a copy in the sense of a zerox or something. I have seen lithographs sell for thousands of dollars.

This might help:

I
have a very beautiful limited edition lithograph by Kia Asamiya here:

They
are very nice. But, then again I like hankens, production art, limited repro's, and genga, etc. I am one of nuts that go outside of just anime production cels. I am happy that there is not too much competition with lithographs though :-)
