I was wondering if there was any possibility in having a mandatory catagory listing of "hentai"
I was wondering if there was any possibility in having a mandatory catagory listing of "hentai" or "18+" to those areas where more adult artwork is featured. I ask because, like me, there are many members who may look at RS at work, or perhaps do not care to see more graphic artwork. This would give visitors at least a warning that a gallery's update featured this kind of artwork and to not click on that gallery if they are in a sensitive environment. I know that there are a lot of RS members that list adult artwork as being just that.
Additionally, is there any possibility that, at least for the page banners/home page of each gallery that we keep the artwork at a PG level, especially if that gallery features artwork that children would be more apt to look at(ie. Sailormoon, CCS, Dragonball)? While the majority of galleries already do this, it would be nice if we all could. I know that, when I have kids, I would love to introduce them to all the wonderful artwork out there without running the risk of seeing something that wouldn't be age appropriate.
Good ideas! Sounds like more items to be added to the official wish list thread. =)
We see a lot of users are already self censoring themselves with the 18+ icons. However, over time with enough gallery viewing we'd imagine you'd begin to know the names of potential hentai series/collectors, wouldn't you? One tip that's really helped us is to preview and/or bookmark the galleries we like and share those specific galleries with people. This way we already know the contents there should be less chances of "surprises". =)
Also we've noticed most Sailormoon and CCS collectors typically are not hentai collectors per se. Have you really encountered hentai in those type of galleries? We ask b/c a search for hentai only showed 149 results, adult = 140, while Sailormoon = 167, Sailor Moon = 1196, Capture Card Sakura = 52, and CS = 525. There wasn't much of any hentai contained in most of those galleries.
Good luck with your PG level gallery hunts, personally we think there are lots more of those than hentai type collectors. =) Cheers.
Well, there's one gallery in particular that has a variety of both clean and hentai artwork, but that features an up-close shot of a woman's crotch as the banner. Normally, I don't care what people do with their galleries, but, I find that I am reminding myself not to visit that gallery because of the image.
I agree that the majority of members label hentai artwork well, and I was trying to express that, though not so eloquently, in my last post. I really appreciate that other members type a few extra characters just so that I make sure to look at their wares later.
Unfortunately, other than the more popular Kite/Mezzo Forte artwork running around, I don't know the names of many hentai animes. So, seeing something like "Venus 5" and "Usagi-chan de Cue!" might perk my interest due the title.
Well... we happen to be one of those CCS collectors that also collects hentai. :D
We also happen to have a "suggestive" home banner for our Rubberlug gallery. It does feature a woman's "assets", however it does not have any nudity or explicit content. We don't know if we are one of the persons you are referring to, cutiebunny, but we apologize if our banner has offended you in any way.
We believe that ecchi is an integral part of anime, and because of that, it would be quite hard to control it. We've actually encountered several other banners as suggestive or more suggestive than ours. You yourself have a naked Serenity image as your small banner, which is suggestive in its own way. ^_~
On the flipside though, we agree that nudity should not be used in a home banner, and we also agree that hentai or nudity should be labeled "18+" or something like that. We always make sure to do that for our Rubberslug gallery. Our main gallery has a disclaimer on the first page, warning people of the graphic nature of some of our artwork.

But there is a difference in our banners - I do not have a close up of Serenity's chest. Additionally, it's not detailed in the artwork, whereas yours, though covered, is more detailed. Unless someone is holding a magnifying glass to my banner, it would be hard to see anything. If anyone ever told me to change the banner because their child looks at the artwork often, I'd do it. Yes, it might infringe on my right as a gallery owner, but I understand the sentiment.
I have no problem with people collecting and displaying hentai, ecchi, yaoi/yuri, etc. artwork. I just would like to keep the banners/home pages clean of that type of imagery, and to have it properly labeled. That's all.
Granted, I don't think a plethora of 10 year olds are going to decent upon our site - ever. But for those few who decide to google stuff from an anime they just watched, I would like to leave them with a welcoming and enjoying experience, instead of one that might be shortlived due to parental controls.
