Anime Cel framing services
Hi I've been collecting Sailor Moon (SM) cels for some time now. But I just recently decided to start framing my cels as a way of preservation. Today I received my first framed cel but I can't stop thnking that
1. I got ripped off (even though the framing looks great)
2. The so called gallery experts, increased the line fading in my cel. I'm not quite sure whether they put the cel under a lot of light, but I have scans to compare prior to framing.
So what I'm wondering is whether you can suggest a framing gallery. I know a lot of you would say "Do it yourself" and I am considering it after what happened. But still if anyone knows a good place, please feel free to comment.
By the way I live in New York and am planning on visiting a gallery called Animazing
www.animazing.com
Anyone know of them?
I've delt with Animazing a couple of times. Good experiences.
Your extra line fading could be due the the handler(handlers) trying to 'dust off' the cel or bending it too much..if the lines on the cel are by the 'xerox' method on not hand inked, this could cause some of the line powder to flake off.
Also...here is another expert framer of cels...use him all the time:
Parker Jordan Fine Art
13000 San Fernando Rd. #10
Sylmar, CA 91342-3616
Attn: Ruben Brenes
sorry...I don't have the email address.
That is extremely useful information. Seriously I didn't know that about the powder. My first thought was light. Anyway, I'll be sure to check out the framer you mentioned. Seriously, all the help from you guys on the forum is much appreciated.
Late response...but I would not frame a cel, even if it's done professionaly, but that's just me.
I've had a cel framed before, and even though it was done professionaly and by no means hanging in a sunny spot, it faded over time.
But a cel is such a delicate piece, and it wasn't made to last in the first place, that I prefer leaving it in a cel book.
If I want to look at the image, flipping through the book or a nice, high res scan will do just as well for me :)

Thanks for the responce. It's not late at all. You know what, even though I framed the cel that I mentioned in the post, It's still sitting in a box. I just don't trust myself to hang it anywhere in the apartment. I'm afraid, as you mentioned, that it would still fade. Someone might disagree with me but I'm also getting to the conclusion that framing isn't worth it. Especially with anime cels. However, I am considering getting some rag mats (bainbridge or crescent) to mount the cels and then put them back in the book.
