is my cel slowly deteriorating?
Hello fellow cel fans!
i would like to address a concern of mine, i just received my cel i won on yahoojp, but unfortunately the cell is stuck to the painted background. i have searched around for an answer to my concern on the web, but i have failed to find information i need to address this problem.
the main reason why i am worried is because the cel paint has wet blotches around the areas that are stuck to the background, and i am concerned that this will continue to cause harm on the cel paint. i really dont know how long both sheets were stuck together, but i just hope my cel wont turn into some big blobbed object 20 years down the line.
i am sure a lot of you guys have cels that are in this state. i really dont mind the cel being stuck to the background, but i just hope that this condition wont speed up the deterioration process .
Thanks guys!

The problems I've seen with stuck backgrounds:
1. Warping of the cel surface
2. Paint from the background leeching into the cel paint, which discolors it.
I try to avoid cels that are stuck to a background, but I sometimes make exceptions when the cels are from an older series (like Dr. Slump).
You say the cel paint has wet blotches? Are they between the cel and the background? If it's actual moisture there, I'd be concerned.
Again, thank you guys!. lots of reading and collecting to do! :)

to answer the question, the cel paint has no moisture around the marks, it's actually dry, it just has a wet appearance to it. i guess it's what you what mentioned...the background is leeching into the cel paint...argh! i dont care too much to be honest, i just dont want it spread over a long period of time....well, i guess i better hit the links, and learn some more about these kinds of issues. Thanks again fellas!
