Collecting still going strong!

Browsing the RS galleries and taking note of the recent updates I'm pleased to see lots of new galleries have been created.

This is exciting because for some years there has been talk that collectors will find other hobbies to indulge in now that cel-made shows are no more.

In the future there will undoubtedly be more sketches on display, that's IF the artwork gets released, but for now, it's good to see that animation artwork is still being appreciated, collected/displayed and continues to inspire.

Could I say the same thing in 10 years time?

I'm sure there will be, but the pickings will be fewer.

If you want to imagine how things might be like ten years from now just move all dates ten years into the past and see how it sounds.

Imagine if the percentage of computer colored anime were actually:

15 percent in 1988
40 percent in 1989
55 percent in 1990
75 percent in 1991
95-98 percent in 1992
almost 100 percent in 1993

Now...think about the anime that anime fans are mostly into these days. How many of them are still really into an anime that came out in 1991 or earlier?

It's mostly the long-time anime fans that are into these "older anime". The younger and newer anime fans are more into anime that came out in the last ten years (esp. the last five years).

As far as sketches go...imagine if the number of new series sketches had begun to seriously decline in late 1997.

This would be a nightmare Alternate Reality for me as far as I'm concerned since the vast majority of the anime I like the most are post-1993.

...wow, I've been in the hobby for over 10 years! @_@ Well, I'm semi-retired now, but I still have hope for my wishlists someday!
