In case of FIRE.
Note: I just noticed that instead of replying to the already thread regarding this issue I accidently made a new thread. If any mod or admin can move it to the proper thread please do.
First time posting on rubberslug... Yup. Fresh off the boat (actually post a lot on beta and recognize quite a few people here).
Anyways, very interesting topic, I believe at some level when you purchase anything regardless it be art or something valuable and rarity you always wonder what "if". Well honesty I just let the dice roll where they may. Chances are the only way anything would happen (weather related) where I live is maybe a hurricane which strikes every 15 or so years.. My state really doesn't have any problems with anything else. As far as fire is concerned the house is relatively new and unless a deliberate arson is committed chances of my house catching on fire is almost nonexistent. I do however state that if something was to happen that I would have to immediately flee my house I have the sketches quite close to a window and below is bushes. They are sitting in boxes that the boxes themselves are in a huge bin. I would simply chuck the bin down and grab the reminder boxes of art and chuck them out as well. That?s basically my fire plan.
However, I would never feel the need to insure them because in the end money is something that can deal with but art. True art one of a kind can not. This is not to say that if my house ever was on fire my first thing to grab would be my dogs. I love my sketches etc but life is much more important. That?s not to say that once everyone (including all people etc) are out of the burning house I would run in there for all my life and grab my sketches. One may say at this time well you originally said "life is more important" which this may be true however for me I would be willing to take the risk (pending on the size of the fire...)
