No matter what, definitely, definitely use celbags! Even if you put them in an Itoya, they'll still scratch very easily since dirt will have an easy time getting in.

I know what you're talking about. XD Most cels I get from Japan come in closed celbags that rip very, very easily. I think that in Japan, you usually never take the cel out of the bag, so they don't have to worry about it ripping.
There's an excellent seller to buy bags from on Ebay. His are very thick, and he has the self-sealing kind and the kind with just a flap that you fold over. I've used the large self-sealing kind for my backgrounds, and they work like a charm. I have no problems opening them back up to take the background out.
In any case, it's best to throw away all of the bags your cels came in. They've probably been on the cels for years (probably since the first dealer bought them). Some would even say you should throw away bags if you take the cels out of them (I mean the bags that you originally put on).
