Colorized CG douga on Yahoo Japan?

Lately I've been seeing "cels" and matching douga on Yahoo Japan from some series that I know are pure CG.

No, the cels aren't fancels or special promos for cards/games and such, they are, as far as I can tell, the regular douga type drawings. The drawings are probably scanned into photoshop with color added and then printed out (whether on acetate or a white piece of paper... no idea). The colorized image is shown as the auction image and prominently displayed above the douga, leading you to think it is a regular cel/sketch auction.

The thing is... the auctions don't use any special terms or explicitly say what is going on, just the usual "any distortion is from the cel bag, excellent condition!". Unless you knew the series had no cels, you would think "wow! what an awesome cel! Must buy! Must buy!"

Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

(some examples of what I'm talking about would be some Galaxy Angel 'cels' posted recently from season Z (the second season). I just checked and none are currently listed. What might be what I'm talking about is: http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/auction/h45766905 A Di Gi Charat Cel that was either trimmed to remove the registration holes or is a colorized version, and possibly a rilezu, but I doubt it. Usada in the auction title is the name of the character, but hey could be some code word too).

The Di Gi Charat is either a rilezu or limited post production cel.

As to the colored dougas, a lot of those are the computer animation printed out for color test guides to make sure all the computer colorization from that set are done correctly. Consider them like key cels for that step of the CG animation process. I have this one from Ai Yori Aoshi http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=138932 as well as seen quite a few from other CG shows such as Chobits , ROD TV & Please Teacher. Mine was included with all the gengas & dougas from that entire scene of that cut.

Huh. So no one out there colorizes douga and calls it a cel? I'll have to keep an eye out for the type of thing I'm talking about.

As for the Di Gi Charat cel, why not label the auction as such?

that's a cute rizeulu cel. :)

when collecting pure CG art, you are usually dealing with genga sets, storyboard, and original backgrounds.

I have managed to obtain a colorized douga layout of two characters from the CG series Princess Tutu, for example. It came with one of my original backgrounds that was used in the series. Unfortunately, it doesn't scan well. :(

Maybe the seller may have listed his auction that way to attract more attention??
