When I attended this year's AX, I honestly did not have the intention of buying a cel. The goal was to submerge myself within the anime production and fandom community....and pray I learn to swim.
If there was going to be any cel purchasing, I had told myself, it would need to satisfy two prerequisites:
1.) The cel would have to be a fastastic shot of an anime series I was already interested in collecting.
2.) The cel had to be UNDER priced.
I flipped through all the cels displayed on all the cel dealer stands, and, like all good finds, it was the last stand I planted root at. Anime-Link.
I had asked one of the dealer's helpers if she had any Dragon Quest, and she informed me that they only had one in the Miscellaneous Binder. Sure enough they did, but it was of the second and far inferior (from what I have heard) series (I think). Besides, the price didn't make this old ebay hound howl moon worship.
And this is where I have to own up to a rather small lie I have told in my description for the cel. I wasn't the first one to find it tucked away and mislabelled as a Dragonball Z cel. My girlfriend was the real pirate on this occassion. I am more of the....well....Bill Gates with an eyepatch by taking the credit.
Regardless, the two-layered oversized Dragon Quest cel with the original background still attached was a bargain. I have seen group shots that look awkward, but not this one. The supporting cast was all looking up and in the same direction.
Even though I had forced myself to let the idea of purchasing the cel crawl around in my mind for a day, I ultimately realized it was just too good of a deal to pass up.
