When I attended this year's AX, I honestly did not have the intention of buying a cel. The goal was to submerge myself within the anime production and fandom community....and pray I learn to swim.

If there was going to be any cel purchasing, I had told myself, it would need to satisfy two prerequisites:

1.) The cel would have to be a fastastic shot of an anime series I was already interested in collecting.

2.) The cel had to be UNDER priced.

I flipped through all the cels displayed on all the cel dealer stands, and, like all good finds, it was the last stand I planted root at. Anime-Link.

I had asked one of the dealer's helpers if she had any Dragon Quest, and she informed me that they only had one in the Miscellaneous Binder. Sure enough they did, but it was of the second and far inferior (from what I have heard) series (I think). Besides, the price didn't make this old ebay hound howl moon worship.

And this is where I have to own up to a rather small lie I have told in my description for the cel. I wasn't the first one to find it tucked away and mislabelled as a Dragonball Z cel. My girlfriend was the real pirate on this occassion. I am more of the....well....Bill Gates with an eyepatch by taking the credit.

Regardless, the two-layered oversized Dragon Quest cel with the original background still attached was a bargain. I have seen group shots that look awkward, but not this one. The supporting cast was all looking up and in the same direction.

Even though I had forced myself to let the idea of purchasing the cel crawl around in my mind for a day, I ultimately realized it was just too good of a deal to pass up.

Hitting scanner repeatedly with a rock, seems not to be working. Perhaps when I go visit Mark I can use his scanner.... hmm this is a plan. He has my Hobby Shop loot too, more Miyu goodness.

Hah! I dare you to find "cute" and "fluffy" in my AX update! Okay, okay, Goku is cute and the kitten is fluffy, but let's not forget that Goku is a demon! (And, speaking as a cat owner -- ah, cat servant, that is -- cats are Teh Ebil, too. ^_^')

The rest of the update has a sorcerer, an assassin, a couple of vampires (not from AX but I'm too lazy to move 'em from my New Cels section, and the entry was protected before so it's like it's a new cel :-p) and a gorgeously angsty dhampir.

AX was kind on the production art front, and fun overall, despite the fact I had practically no voice and a persistently sore throat the entire time.

Okay, so normally, I don't post a lot (even when I update), but since there is already a convenient thread here for this purpose, I might as well use it. *shrug*

I think last year, I bought a whopping three items, so by comparison, this year has been kinder, with sixteen purchases (mostly Lantis and Kuroro). I am not exactly sure why there were so many items that I was looking for this year, but I won't be complaining anytime soon.

But, perhaps, the best part (aside from the purchases) each and every year, I get to meet the neat people who populate Rubberslug. Many kind wishes to all who attended Slugfest, the Cel Panel, or just visited AX for a day or two in general. And, if I missed meeting you this year (Sorry folks...), hopefully, I'll get to do the "meet and greet" thing again at the next AX.

Best, ~K
