link to english songs in japanese?

I'm helping a Japanese friend learn English and I've found from experience that music is the easiest thing to have in common.

I'm looking for lyrics popular English-language contemporary pop music translated into Japanese. I don't mean like an automatic translator, because everyone knows those are awful.

I don't know how I would begin to look for something like this, but the few searches I ran came up with nothing.

What I'm looking for is a link to some random fan out there who has manually transcribed, line-for-line, literal Japanese lyrics to western music likely to be available in your average Japanese record store. Think along the lines of the Beatles, U2, Madonna, etc. I know that things like this are assigned as school projects all the time, I just can't seem to dig any up in Japanese.

Perhaps starting with anime songs which are typically translated in English in the linear notes would be easier? Also, in addition to songs, I'd recommend experimenting with films + tv series(ie Buffy) which are often multilingual with English subs.

Ah, the idea behind English songs was to impart a sense of informal English and use of symbolism, imagery, etc.

If I went with Japanese songs, I'd probably pick something more mainstream. A lot of mainstream music happens to be inserted into Japanese TV and anime all the time though.

Now that you mention films, Disney songs would probably be really good... except I know that they actually redub the music in Japanese (very high production value). I have a copy of a Japanese Timon and Puumba singing "Hakuna Matata". It's surreal.

There is a Japanese Drama/Comedy currently running on Japanese sponsored TV (Channel 18, Direct TV )called, "Dragon Sakura" that takes place in a Japanese high school and English is taught via music as a competing methodlogy verses standard classroom training.

Hmmm, I'll look that up and see what they actually teach. My understanding of Japanese is extrordinarily limited... but with enough time with Japanese-English dictionaries and fiddling around with the kanji replacements provided by the Windows Japanese IME, I can actually type messages that make something approaching sense.
