CG vs. 2D anime art in Japan
well did they comment on how they specifically feel about the widespread transition from traditional cel animation to digimation?
My impression was that they didn't feel panicked or that concerned by CG art whatsoever at Madhouse, but were continuing to pursue projects in that medium.

"Btw, I think cel animation is a dying art and its appreciation is dwindling."

Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more with the first part, it happens to niche markets and collections, but it won't die out completely.
Jason said it best, when he said, "cel art is going the way of the Fresco".

However, appreciation never really dies.

Collections flourished quickly, but so did prices (circa, 1998-2003) The raiding of cels went on for quite a while, but we are talking about limited resources.

The newer generation, is looking at and locked into dwindling supplies of quality cels being advertised. Not so amazing the luster of hand-painted cels has been diminished and replaced with something else; original anime art sketches, figures, etc., along with, consumer items (Xbox, PSP's, plasma tv's, digital camera's, etc.)

There are people that are "dormant collectors", like myself perhaps. They have not yet stopped entirely, but have slowed down considerably ( having joined the "dark-side" of the lurking force) until they again decide to reach out to either buy or sell something, cels will be around a long, long, time =)

In a way, we are a special group that "knows" what is really in the hands of some collectors out there. A lot of newbies really don't know the amazing things in some peoples closets...

We are skeleton collectors now =)

We know too many of our friends that have 'em!

Oh I think we can ALL tell stories of skeleton collectors! Man I know plenty who don't display their goods and those beauties will never see the light of day. Damn those hoarders! *shakes Mahoro's fist of injustice*
