Anime-taro was the old name for Stephen's online store which is now called Anime-museum.

I still remember the infamous Anime-Taro updates, where leagues of cel collectors would update their browsers every nanosecond; just for that slim and slight chance that they might get that one primo cel that no one will see until it's in their gallery.

If I remember correctly (and it has been what? at least 3-4 years) when an update cel was posted and bought it was immediately taken off the server and no one would see it thereafter. And the good cels were gone quick as in a "mouse click was too slow" quick. I fondly recall the boards (i.e. Animanga, Anime-Alpha (yes, that's pre-Beta), Chaos, etc.) with thread headings of "What did Taro update with?" or "Did Taro have this?" or 'I can't believe I got it".

It was great entertainment if I wasn't one of the headless masses going with the hysteria. I'm sure the old-timers have their stories and hopefully might share them.

And Taro sales, well that's whole 'nother universe...

Yes, those were the "golden years" lol~

I remember all of the excitement amongest Dragon Ball and Fushigi Yugi collectors and more when those updates came out.. Those were great days before CG finally and completely took over (??).. and before the economy tanked and posters got nastier, old collectors and collections faded and went off radar-(including my own).Even then I was a new-bie sort of, since Yann and a few others had gobbled up most of the primo cels even before price peak came to a head. By the time I got my feet wet and had become completely addicted, the prices had begun to spiral out of control..It was fantastic.. (blushing) It was a high I cannot explain. Especially, since I was living in Japan at the time and made "many a good deal" out of it =)

I'm sure we all sorta wished those days would come back, but I think my wallet (if it could speak) and wife (that never stops speaking) sure don't.

I still can't believe how much money I went through those days for those fabulous cels! I had many a proverbial sack lunch in those days!
I was very intensely stuck to the computer screen and in and out of Mandarake all of the time.

And Animanga forum went from entertaining, flame war city, to flame-out and bust right along with everything else. Yann Stettler even disappeared!

I am just amazed that you guys still have kept this boat afloat with your collections.

My experience with Taro was in it's final months. I was a newbie and I remember my amazement at the pages and pages of cels from shows I both knew and had no clue about. I remember waiting what felt like an eternity for my application to be processed before I could actually buy anything...I think it was 2 days. Then after about a month or so of blissful buying, they announced they were closing down. Luckily I had discovered Anime Museum before then...but still....*sigh*

There are still thousands of good shows I have yet to discover so I still manage to coax some pleasure out of this hobby.
