problem with site counter.

my gallery counter has been a little funny lately. when the counter reached 2999 visitors... it went to 2000 when the 3000th page load occurred, not 3000 as it should have. so now, my 3000s are getting recounted as 2000s. i'm not sure why this happened. or if it will go back to 2000 when it reaches the next thousand. if it could be fixed, that would be cool. if not, well, i'm sure i'll live. thanks for your help! and happy new year's!
