Hiya Clare,

If you have no idea what type of paper it is?
It is best to remove it if you can and replace it with a acid free paper or a acid free backing board and place it in a animation cel storage bag.
One of our RS members sells storage bags in his Ebay stores, His name is Russell.
He has many sizes and also backing boards.
Here is a link to his RS gallery send him a email via his feedback link, Tell him Roy from backlotanimation sent you.

Hope
this helps some.

I really think she was sincere about taking your advice Roy/guys as she said it twice ;) j/k

On occasions I still have cels that come with a sheet of tissue paper, it's cut to the size of the cel so I wonder if it's something the studio does as opposed to the seller? I wonder that because cel dimensions are not a western standard paper size.

That paper can help if it's placed between the painted side of the cel and a drawing BUT it does get stuck and bends/tears easily.

As everyone's said, storing both elements separately in individual cel bags is the best bet. Just need to take some of my own advice... *tsk*
