Stuck cels

Okay, I have two cels that are stuck together. The cel is of a girl's face and the eyes are on another cel. I wanted to have them seperated because I have two other verisons of the eyes so I wanted to see how they would look.

Anyway, I really can't put the cels near a cracked window so I was wondering if I could put the cel on a chair, in the bathroom, while I'm in the shower.

Would this work?

Thanks,
Heather

Well Heather, there are other people on Rubberslug that are more knowledgable than me, but here's my take. The techniques I've heard of like the window trick you mentioned are usually used for separating a cel from a stuck sketch. Separating two stuck layers is much harder. The paint is really made to stick to the plastic so you have a much higher risk of leaving the paint stuck to the layer you didn't want, and damaging the cel. From what I've heard you're better off leaving stuck layers alone.

Of course, I could be wrong. If anyone knows better, feel free to correct me.

There are posts here on the forum and elsewhere that have been posted on this topic many times.

This one may help:

I think we may need an indexing tool or a google search tool or something along those lines for the forum in regards to noteworthy topics, posters/authors, and events that serve everyone here like a cliche (a.k.a "bread and butter" articles). Or perhaps someone could write exhaustive analysis on any one or more topics of expertise and have them added to the "resources section"; of course, if this idea gets approved by the mods/admin.

"Backlotanimation" site owner has a wealth of information on various cel topics, including this one that is posted somewhere, but I couldn't find it. If he reads this, he may reply. He seems to have the best method that I have read about minus my link.

Btw, I have been meaning to try to "mediate" his voluntary-brain-drainage into the site and not waste all of his precious experience and commentary to mere forum posts and hyperbole =)

Hiya Heather,

There are more here from others also so surf the posts here in the forums.
I hope they help some.

There
are a few more posts here If you can't find what your looking for let me know and I'll see if I can find it in one of my books or links I have.

I have seen some folks make a full size copy of there stuck cels and use photo shop to remove the eyes or mouth, To put the extra cels they have over it to see what set of eye/mouth they want to use on the hold cel to see what it looks like.
This way they don't mess there hold cel up or the eyes that are stuck to the hold cel.

There is alot of reading with all these posts above, But most stuck things and cel care are listed there, Read them all before you try any of them.
These ideas are just things I've seen that work, But if you are not sure, The best thing to do is to take the artwork to a art dealer and let them do it for you, But it will cost a bunch to get them to do it for you.

Thanks E for the post about me and I don't mind sharing what I've learned in the past, This is one way we can keep the knowledge going down the line to all the newbies and others needing info about cel collecting.
As all the old school animators are dying off we are losing all this type of knowledge and info we all need. So if you learn it pass it on down for the future collectors, they will need it also.
Once more I hope this helps some.
