Howl's Moving Castle Model Project Pics
Finally after six months, $50(book cost) and a total build time of 80-100 hours the H.M.C model is 90% done. This is a hubby /wubby project. We both have previous model building experience and it still took us that long to come this far.
I've added the pics of project to our photo album in our gallery. After clicking on the thumbnail, click on the pic again to see a larger image. "Advanced modeling skills required" was the suggestion for this project, but I think that's definitely an understatement.
Since you can't add describtion to the pics in the photo album section, I will describe them briefly.
First pic is the tools we used in making the model. Second and the third pic are the front and back cover of the papercraft book. The photo on the cover of the book is what the model is going to look like after it's done. Fourth and the fifth pic are pages from the book that contain the pieces of the model. The paper used for the model is a heavy weight paper so it's very sturdy but hard to work with. That's why everyhing had to be pre-scored using the tip of a pencil at the bend or fold lines to make it more managable. Fifth pic has the pages that contain the pieces to make the bird like legs of the castle. Sixth page is some cut out and scored pieces (ears of the castle, that's right, the castle has ears)
ready to be glued. Seventh pic has some of the bigger pieces completed. Eight pic is a blurry shot of some of the smallest pieces in the model. My pinky is in the pic to give you an idea of the size of the pieces.(those chimneys drove me nuts!)
Ninth pic has some of the houses that will be attached to the body of the castle.
The most tidious work is still ahead. The book comes with two different kind of roofs for the houses. The ones currently attached are flat.Second option is the insanely difficult zig zag roofs which are more realistic. The bending that needs to be done is so close to eachother that I am going to have make a tool myself to make the task attemptable(is that a word?) A two inch long roof has to be bend 46 times in different directions to achieve the desired affect. This model will also have moving parts like the tongue, cannons, etc.. Approx size of the model will be 20 inches high 15 long and 10 inches wide.
We will be posting additional photos as we progress with the project. Depending on our work schedule, we should be done in another month. Hopefully :)
Wow that is incredible! I don't think I would ever be able to do it, so I have to be super in awe of people with those kind of skills. Ye indeedy, mad skills.
Wow!! That's so cool, thanks for sharing it all with us. The patience and skills it must have taken to build is astounding, as are the details on it! But man that corrugated roof sounds insane!
Good luck with the rest of it and I look forward to more progress pics, so keep us updated!
