Comic Con in S.D.
E,
I was there for only Sunday. All you missed was a chaotic and tumultuous sea of humanity getting in the way of my finding what I missed at AX. Of course, I didn't find what I needed, but I did meet some very cool people and almost found myself getting back into statue-collecting. Almost. And comic page art galore.
As for cels, Link and Nichibei represented the anime side. Van Eaton, Acme, Wonderful and others brought the majority of American cels.
Now that they have opened up the entire convention center to Comic Con, you can barely see from one end to the other. Makes for great exercise.
Hope to see you there next year. I missed ya at AX.

Comic Con was great. I only got down there on Friday, had to work the weekend. But it was great! Best thing was there were a lot of animation art dealers, seemed a lot more than in previous years. Very cool convention, I spent way too much as usual.
Comic-con was larger than ever. This time estimates said 110 - 115 thousand attended.
We arrived early on the 13th for preview night. In line I met ButtrflyM and her Dad.
After entering the room I met up with Roy (Backlotanimation), Albert (Balto) & Matt (Fins, fur&Feathers) and watch them go bonkers at the Van Eaton booth. Later we got together At Roy's hotel room and looked over the 200lbs of cel's Roy brought to trade at the convention.
While at the Con we met Uende(cmx) and drooled over her personal artwork she brought to sell.
We met up with several friends of mine and my wife got a lot of new sketches in her book. I only bought 1 AMG cel and several Anime statutes & figures from Evangelion including a set of 5 Rei Ayanami special figures in their original boxes, We spent our money on mostly comic stuff including a Ted Naifeh page (Courtney Crummin & the Nightmare Kingdom)& a Steve Rude Sketch. A large $$$ was spent at the Comic Book Legal Defence Fund charity auction in which I bought several signed books by the Late Will Eisner as well as a set of inking pens he used for close to 60 years to draw the Spirit and several Graphic Novels.
While we were there We met Masami Tsuda the Manga artist of Kare Kano, rode an elevator with Ray Bradbury, Listened To Jim Warren the publisher of Famous Monsters, Errie & Creepy. We saw world premeirs of animes Samurai 7 & Kakurenbo (hide & seek)
Got plenty of exersize. Kept cool and above all had lots of fun.
Only was able to go there on Thursday, but boy was it a full day. Went there with some friends who are making a pitch for a Superman story to DC (which got us all "Professional" badges - cool!). That went well, so we started walking the floor. I went to talk to Ken over at Van Eaton Galleries and oogled over more of Gris Grimly's work (the guy's gonna go big some day). Found myself over in the WB/Fox animation section where they were selling cels and sketches. Picked up a sweet original sketch from "Time Squad" - will be posting that later on. A couple of my friends and I got out pics taken on the Transformer Movie con-blog. I've since heard from a few people over at My Space saying that they saw my picture...weird. Went and dug through some old back issue comics, 'cause that's what your supposed to do at Comic-con. Didn't find anything. Went and shook some more hands over at the Oni Press booth - was looking for Greg Rucka (of "Queen & Country") who I apparently just missed. Oh well. Immediately went over and started chating with Mike Mignola about Ron Perlman and the chances of a "Hellboy" sequel. He seems to think he'll be able to get Guillermo to pull it off. I hope so. Went over to the ?on flux booth and waited to see something more in the up-coming movie. Was disappointed. Went back over to the DC booth talked to writer Mike Carey (Hellblazer, Lucifer). Creepy guy - we got along well. Finally, got all the guys together and went over and had a steak at the Marina and then headed home. All in all, a very good day.
