Creating backgrounds for cels...

I know that there are some backgrounds available to print out here, but what is the best way to go about doing so, and what kind of paper should I use?

Is there some way to "make" the original background for the best match?

The best thing to do is to save them to your hard drive and then print them out. I don't think it matters what kind of paper you use, as long as it's big enough to hold the entire image. Check what the image size is first.

If you can paint, you can paint your own original backgrounds. Or I'm sure you can get them commissioned from someone based off a screencap.

There's another thread on the board about commissioning backgrounds. It's at

If
that's not what you're looking for, you can always try any of the fan cel websites out there.

Thank you very much!

I wasn't sure about the kind of paper, because I didn't know if the cels could potentially be damaged over time :)

Do you know of any good fan cel commission artists? I've been on the lookout lately, and I do admit that link you gave me has some lovely stuff!

Hello pinkie}{promise,
You can go to any good size office supply store and get yourself some (Archival Paper) in the size you want, It comes in many sizes and colors.
This type of paper is acid free and will last a long time and not hurt your cels in any way.
I would use this kind of paper for any costly cels.
If you frame the cel with the background make sure you use a matte between the layers so the cel floats above the background and does not touch it so it will not stick to the background or you can add a clear cel to the back of the animation cel, To keep it from touching the paper background.
I have also seen folks put the cel in a clear cel bag and then place it over the background before framing.

You asked;(Is there some way to "make" the original background for the best match?)

You can use a screen capture program to copy the scene from the DVD and play with the size to make it the same size as your cel and place your cel over the matching copy of the scene.
Use cheap paper to play with the sizes until you find the right size to print as this can take a few trys to get it just right, Save your Archival Paper until you find the right size as this paper is kind of costly to play with.

I hope this helps out some.
