How do you store your cels?

I bought an Itoya Art Portfolio book so I can put my cels in there.

Is there an ever better way to store cels?

Hello, Jason
You can use the portfolio books but make sure you use a cel bag also so the dust can not get to your cels, If you just put them in the folder dust will get to them and scratch your cels.

Try getting a plastic stacking hanging file box from wal-mart or k-mart , the kind with the locking lid to keep out the moist air and dust.
They work great for storage.

Hi,

Will the cel be damaged quickly unless I use cel bag? Also, if I use cel bag and treat them carefully, will the cels be able to last for years, even decades?

Thank you!

It's not like you have to have them bagged up tomorrow. Based on my experience, they should be fine for a little while. Of course, I live in a dry climate, so I've never had to deal with moisture. It's probably a much bigger issue if you live somewhere with high humidity.

Just don't handle them too much until you can get them into bags, or you are more likely to scratch them, and definately keep them out of direct sunlight, always and forever. Oh, and don't keep any unstuck sketches on the back of the cel, because there is a chance that they will stick, and sketch paper tends to have acid in it. Eventually, that acid can do some damage--mainly discoloration. BTW, the link that E gave also has some links to where you can purchase cel bags.

As far as how long they last, that depends on how you care for them. More than likely any cels you have are already a couple years old, since most animation is CG(computer generated) now. A lot of my cels I purchased are already a decade or two old, so I know that they can last:)

Roy could probably tell you a whole lot more . . .you might want to check to see if he's chatting right now. You'd probably get faster answers that way.
