the force is strong with this one...

Urk. I shouldn't have, but I blew the better part of my evening on watching that Star Wars movie. Not nearly as bad as I was warned of. Actually seemed very much like a Star Wars movie for once, minus the ridiculous number of little ships flying around in the background while everyone talks and the super-shiny everything.
Everything I was supposed to do today gets first dibs on tomorrow morning. Except breakfast, I already ate that. Man, I ate like 4 meals today.

I still say the original Star Wars movies (Ep. IV, V VI) are the best.
Episode I was good, MINUS Jar Jar >.</! Episode III was better than I expected, but con not compare to the original 3. At the VERY END of III is when I was beginning to feel the "essence" of the original 3. I must say I was very impressed with the space battle scenes. The Emperor was really weak too. OMG...Was it just me, or did that guys cackling just make you go, "Mannnnnnnn..."? In the original 3, he was a badass, and I was afraid of him. In this one...I just laugh at him.
I could go on and on, but...The last 45 minutes of Ep. III are the best. There's a lil' bit better acting, but not much...Still dry as ever. The original stories at least had some emotion that drug you in, as well as a storyline that will end up lasting through the ages.
Just my 2 cents.
I thought when Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine/Emperor) was doing his senator thing he was pretty cool. When he switched into evil guy mode it was a little too campy.
The battle scenes were good, but they bothered me. I can't put my finger on it. It just seemed like... well, you know how some illustrators just don't know when to stop drawing? (I'm looking at you, McFarlane.) It just seemed like everything lacked any subtlety.
CG people jumping around still look distractingly awkward, but the good news is they look significantly less stupid than Blade 2 of a mere 3-4 years ago. Pasting real people's faces on CG people just makes it worse. Note to ILM: Please film all CG people either from the back or moving very, very fast (a la Spiderman 2) until you're good and ready.
But yeah, all in all, felt like I was actually watching a Star Wars movie (specifically, a "Special Edition" rerelease). That alone was enough for a good mark.
I agree the first three films were much better then the new ones. It almost seems like Lucas lost something in his directing edge as better CG tech came out. Sure the new movies are beatiful but they lack something the first three had. The fights were awesome but the acting except for Obi Wan and Yota were less then good. Then again that script would make any actor's job hard. Still the best of the three new films. On the CG note way to much of it for me. For God's sake pay for some extras Lucas, you cheep.....
So I saw Revenge of the Sith on Fri., then rewatched Return of the Jedi(which, coincidently, was originally slated to be called Revenge of the Jedi) just a few days ago, when I realized one very important fact: George Lucas REALLY needed to go back and watch the first three movies he made. I mean, even in RoJ there were SO many lines that were really contradicted by what happened in RoS. Besides that, the entire ending seemed like it wrapped up far too quickly. All of the other movies were building up to Anakin's grand turn to the dark side, and it just really wasn't much of a turn.
One other thing I noticed--the explosion in the Emperor's death scene in RoJ is done with cels!! I recognized that, turned to my sister, and said, "I wonder how much one of THOSE would cost." Not that I want one or anything :)
