Need info - cel without sequence number
last modified: Tuesday, September 20, 2005 (7:18:07 PM)
I just got my Balrog (aka Vega) cel in the other day and Im a bit concerned because it lacks a sequence number. I cant help but think that perhaps its a fan cel eventhough Im certain that the auction did not say that it was. In fact, the seller didnt even really know for certain he was from Street Fighter.

Does anyone recognize it from any of the Street Fighter stuff?

That is a fancel. Vega/Balrog has never looked like that in any of the anime versions. (He is blonde in Alpha, but different art style. He was a brunette/dirty blonde in the movie. And the V series looks completely different as well). It is a pose from an artbook. Someone must''ve used it as reference. It''s nice cel either way though.

Well I did email you my thoughts before, but you never responded, but it does look very similar to the Vega pictured on the back of the video sleeve, apart from the fact his legs have been chopped off in the cel...so I can only really assume, like Toni, that it''s probably a fancel.

Don''t worry about it, I actually sent it through the feedback system, but I guess it was probably RS playing up or something!

I was actually after that Vega cel off of YJ and I ended up watching all the Vega scenes just to check that it wasn''t from the film, but none matched. It''s a shame, but it''s still a great cel, whatever it was used for.

And just so you can check it out. I founds some images for comparisons of where the cel could''ve come from. Can''t find the scan of the VHS sleeve tho, but it''s pretty much the same as the images seen on the DVD sleeves.

Dunno whether that helps you at all.

Here''s some screen caps of Vega from the movie.

If this had been the hanken for the cover, the image would''ve been complete (including the legs, in other words). Is it the size of a hanken or anything? Or is it a standard sized cel? I still think it''s a fancel, perhaps using the cover for reference? That is a classic Vega pose too. Still very well made. Cool acquisition ^_^

i had this same concern on one cel i''ve sold long ago.

i couldnt find the numbers at the time on it, they were there just couldnt see them.
well, the owner of animeed had a small tutorial up. three ways to tell if it''s an actual cel. one is the sequence numbers. if you dont find those then, the second way is make sure it has a matching sketch with it. the third way, which i dont know how you''d know this, is for it to have the matching background.
if none of those then you''d better consider it a fan cel.

tis a very lovely cel of him i might add!

Hello,

Some cels do not have numbers and according to some of the translation software I''ve used, they''re reffered to as "odan" cels. If a cel came originally from a pan cel, the part of the cel you have may not have a cel number on it. I have a few cels like this.
