Background Clarification
last modified: Wednesday, June 29, 2005 (4:56:01 PM)
What meant was, It makes me upset when someone buys a cel (ONE out of a sequence) just for the background then tries to sell that cel with a copy of the background.

I found one recently that I inquired about purchasing and the guy told me he had bought it just for the background, but wouldnt sell the background with the cel. Instead, he said he would make a copy (although the description said original background)..

*irk*

and I do think the unmatching ones are a real shame..

Oh, I see. I *kind of* did that for the first time today. I bought a cel w/background on ebay for $10. I plan on using the background for X1999 cel.
Now, I personally would just keep the other cel although I have absolutely ZERO interest in it. But if someone were to ask me to sell it, I''d be thrilled.
I would even offer to throw in a laser copy of the original background.

However, in my gallery, I was planning on showing the cel with original background (since I own both and they are original to each other).

I really didn''t think that was so bad. Of course...the cel I bought isn''t worth anything really. And hopefully (if someone can ID it)...I will always record my background as belonging to that series.

Do you think that is still wrong?
or would it be better to deny someone else the cel (which I hate) because I bought and am using the background with something else?

Any no, this is not sarcastic or with mean intent...I''m honestly curious since I am in a similar position.

Your situation is different for the most part.
First of all, if you''re saying what series the background is from and that it is unmatching, that''s not so bad.
People will try to pass off copies and unmatching copies without saying so, or they offer up the cel with "original background" but don''t say its a copy of it.
Thats shitty when you inquire and THEN they put in that "copy" or "unmatching" clause.

If you were a serious collector of that series, then it can be upsetting to get copies when you know you could have got the 100% real thing.

Its kind of (well, mostly) a snobby thing too..

Like people who wont watch dubs or dislike pan & scan films because they feel it takes away from the original production or artistic integrity..... and Im totally that way.

I see . . . I''ve never seen something like that happen--maybe it''s because I usually buy my cels w/o bgs. Heh.
