Sometimes I feel like we have it really bad.
Then I read the newspaper.
The local "Our area is so cool we need a little mini-newspaper to cover all the fabulous crap around here!"
paper had a front page column article about the area homeless situation. I had no idea the area we moved into was in this much trouble.
It says there's a homeless couple living in the local grocery store's parking lot. That's three blocks from us. The man is missing one leg, and the other is broken.
They moved over to the parking lot after being kicked out of the local park by police.
How crappy can life get? Not only are you and your signifcant other homeless, but you got kicked out of the park, AND your only leg is broken. WTF is wrong with this area, that they tried to fix it by writing an ARTICLE about it!?
I'm going to dig our old coats out of the closet. We are so driving over there tonight, and leaving them somewhere conspicuous.
I know that if I were homeless, I'd just hate like thunder to have someone give me stuff. Somone gave us a $20 gift card to the grocery store here. I'll put it in one of the pockets. I can't do much else, but I feel like I have to do SOMETHING!
I swear, these news people are stupid as a boiled owl.

Wow... dun know what to say other than that. It''s nice you are going to help them. I too think that if I was homeless I would not want it shoved in my face but inside hell I know I would want some help now and then just not the pity that tends to come along with it. So I like how you plan on helping them.
I like the boiled owl bit, I chucked at it even after reading your story.

I''ve actually been homeless before and it''s fairly degrading but the need to survive kicks in and you learn to swallow your pride. Food tends to override dignity. The point of the article was probably to inspire people like you to help that poor couple. Practically, there''s not much more they can do because once you try to help people, it tends to get out of control and there''s not enough to go around. A newspaper writes, it''s all they contribute to society and that''s what they did. Which obviously did some good. If each one of us picked out one person to help, it would actually solve the problem. We just don''t think in those terms. But we can''t forget to take care of ourselves in the process. Kudos for extending yourself for the benefit of others.

I think the newspaper did exactly what it could. They wrote an article, which you read, and it caused you to act. If only everyone could see that kind of generosity in their hearts . . .
I bow to you taking the time and effort to help a fellow man.
