Thank you, Ikea... or not...

Wow, Ikea. You sure do have a lot of neat stuff. Too bad you're always so insanely crowded I can scarcely enjoy you!

Two months ago an Ikea opened not too far from my mom's house. We finally decided to visit last weekend, hoping the crowds had died down (I'm told traffic was so bad police were closing lanes and you had to take a trolly to the entrance). Well, it was still that bad. Maybe even worse. They DO have some awesome things, but it was so hot, and so busy, I was exhausted and stressed by the time we were done. You have to make a day trip out of this place. It takes a good 3 or so hours to go through it all.

One good thing. I managed to find this curtain rod that you can also use to hang pictures. I thought it would be neat to display my favorite cels this way (it would cost too much to frame them). I'm a little concerned about the clips, though, and I'm hoping that, since I mostly keep my blinds closed, they won't be in "direct sunlight."

Even though you won''t frame your cels, you should at least get a mat - you can get mat "sets" at any art supply or craft store, i.e., a mat and a backing board, both acid-free. I''d also invest in a thin acetate sheet also, to put on top of the cel (even though they won''t be in direct sunlight, why let dust hit them, or nicotine, if you have any smokers around?). A bit of acid-free mounting tape on the top (and folds of same to hold the mat and backing together, on top and bottom), and when you clip, you''ll only indent some mat board, not your cels!
If you want a lighterweight look, you can always use protective sleeves, taping the tops shut, or even oversized cel bags (so you can clip on the bag, above the cels).
OR - go get good color photocopies of your favorite cels, and then the sky''s the limit for ways to hang them, and not be afraid of hurting the originals! Just make sure the place is using 24 lb. weight paper, as it''s thicker and holds the color more intensely. Or even cardstock.... Good luck, and post a pic of what you end up doing!

Heheh Ikea rocks, but it always is so crowded! Every one I''ve been to has always had at least a 15 minute wait at the checkout! Shocking! I dunno whether they had them there, but I hope you tried the Swedish Meatballs in their cafe too!
