mandarake...

I don't know what exactly it is about mandarake that makes me not want to bid on things, but I just dont find that they're very friendly or that I should fund an organization that provides very nice items deceivingly. I've heard many stories of them saying there are so many sketches but a lot of them are like rain layers. They're big web auction especially, why do they need 10% on top? dont they make enough money? I guess because as a anime store owner, we try to offer the lowest prices possible.

Their minimal to nil descriptions usually put me off.
But then again, anything I''ve been interested in has gone for far more than I could afford. >_<

*nods in agreement with Leah''s post* I usually have an easy time resisting Mandarake items because the stuff I want goes way, way higher than I can afford --- and, sometimes, way higher than it would go on auction or another dealer''s site.

I''m one of the few fans of Mandarake. I have had manypossitive experiences with them. The 10% is only for the BWA, for their everyday auction the only additional fee is shipping. I''ve always found them to be friendly and helpful. I bought my first cels in their auctions and they had to lead me by the hand through the bidding in yen process. I understand that sometimes their auctions don''t always show everything, and at times that''s a good thing. I bid on this: http://onihime.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=61622

and got this with it: http://onihime.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=68766

It wasn''t advertised in the auction. Nice huh?

Ms. Poe

I''m a fan of Mandarake, but do have problems with them regarding all the shit they pulled with the "65 Sketch Set" with 60 FX layers -_-! That was BS. But, consumers always have to be weary. I''m just glad it''s out in the open with the collecting community so ppl will be more aware of what they''re reading and what they may be getting.

I''ve done business with Mandarake for years now. I''ve been to their store, and am friends with their staff. If I mail them for something, they try their darndest to find it for me. But...If I ask for certain cel things...They won''t show me the GOOD stuff unless I go there. The guy who runs the "Cel Vault" is VERY VERY strict about what gets let out. They have people like Miyazaki, Kawamoto, etc who actually come to their store and give/sell them the stuff they''re auctioning. Sometimes, they have directors, designers who want this stuff sold on auction, and hence the 10% on top of the final total. it''s a way for Mandarake to make some profit off of the auctions.

I know...The 10% thing is a shitty deal, and it gives me less money to work with. But I''d rather pay it then be out a once in a lifetime chance to own a cel =)~!

What''s with all the beef against Mandarake when it comes to sketches? Pretty much most sellers Ive seen post the full quantity of the set, and doesn''t necessarily describe everything. To me, its odd to assume that most of the sketches are full sketches. Advice would be to go by the picture, and not assume anything else...Or ask ahead of time.
