So Sore . . .
last modified: Friday, May 11, 2007 (1:46:34 PM)
I moved out of the dorms yesterday. I hurt everywhere!!! Even the sole of my feet are sore. ;_;

Yesterday was the first time I've ever had to move everything by myself. Since I have my own car now, my parents just figure that I can do it all myself. Luckily, my dad came by the night before to pick up my fridge, bike, and a few other big things. I barely fit all the rest of my junk into my tiny two door Cavalier. Having lots of anime junk is not condusive to moving. ;_; Though, truth be told, the stuff that took up the most room was my books (I really need to sell some of those) and my papers and notebooks from various classes.

The worst part was that one of the colleges was holding its graduation ceremony yesterday. Across the street from my dorm on the west side is the university's largest auditorium and some street parking. On the east side is the parking garage, where I have to park my car on the third floor--no elevators. I had the misfortune of going to move my car from the garage to the west side of the dorms to park on the street right as the graduation ceremony was about to start. So, the police officer directing traffic would not let me turn. So, I ended up having to drive in a huge circle to get to where I wanted to go in the first place.

I have had this happen to me several times, and it make me angry every time. I mean, I live here. I am not trying to go to the stupid events my university holds. I am just trying to get home, or go shopping, or whatever. Half the time, when there's something going on at the auditorium on the weekends, our parking garage gets open up as free parking to anyone who wants to park there. So, our $600+ parking fee (the highest on campus, I might add) only gives us the possibility of parking, especially if you happen to get back during an event.

Anyway, I finally made it over to the street parking, only to find that all of the spaces were gone. So, I went to park in a red zone, since normal parking laws do not get enforced during move in/out periods. Timing was not on my side again. ;_; A Parking and Transit guy was near by, and he came and yelled at me for parking where I was. I yelled right back, at which point he showed me where I could park. It was across the street and about 100 yards down. It was not that far . . .unless you're trying to move 50 pounds worth of junk all at once. ;_;

Anyway, it took me about three hours to move my stuff, making me checkout two hours late. During that time, a police officer came by and made me move my car again. When I finally got close to checking out, I had to wait in line for a vacuum. When I finally got one, the motor was overheated--it smelled really funny. So, I left it for about ten minutes, and tried again.

It set off the fire alarm. >.<

Finally, I got a good vacuum, and got completely checked out. I also managed to drop off my application for a writing tutor position. If I get it, I'll be working in the evenings, which will leave my morning hours open for some sort of internship, or perhaps working on my honors thesis. Scary as it seems, I only have one year left. 0.o

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately, I still have to unpack everything, and my parents have been giving me crap about it. :( Hopefully, I''ll have it all put away nicely by next week when I start up work.

Oh, and sorry about the typo in the first paragraph--it''s supposed to say "soles," since I do have two feet . . . RS is giving me crap about editing it, though.

Oh, I checked my mail yesterday.

Squeeee!!!! I lub u big time, Leah! I''m scanning him right now. ^_^ Hopefully I''ll have him partially up by tomorrow, then I can start begging around to find out how to merge and what free software I can use to reanimate the thing.

Hee, hee. I made my sis stand in line with me at the post office to pick him up. ^_^ For some reason, the mail person didn''t just leave the package on the doorstep. *shrug*

Well I hope you have a better time at AX this year than the wait for the show tickets. I''m only doing one day since I have obligations on Sunday. So I''m hoping my camera battery doesn''t die out on me since I like AX just to take pics of all the cosplayers...and looking for rare cels of course.
