Bzzzzt! College Life

I'm such a freaking procrastinator.

I had all of spring break to work on assignments, but I just sat around most of the week. Towards the end of it, I started thinking about one of my linguistics classes (English and its Social Settings) and the ten page term paper that we had to write for it. I vaguely remembered being given the option of turning it in before spring break in order to get it back quicker. So, it would be due pretty soon after spring break. My silly mind rationalized that it would be due on Friday, which is our section day (Monday and Wednesday are lecture days, then we break up into smaller classes under a TA for Friday), so as to keep each section's papers separate from the other's. My other lecture/section classes have worked that way.

The Sunday before spring break ends comes around. I have class the next day, so I figure I better dig out my syllabus and check. Hmmm . . . term paper due Monday, 3/19. Ooooooh crap. I spent the entire day researching for the paper (I chose to write on the humor in Oscar Wilde's <em>The Importance of Being Earnest</em>) and the entire night writing it. Seriously, I did not sleep at all. I spaced out quite a bit, but I never slept. The class started at 9:40, I finished at 10 and stumbled into class, showerless, to turn in the darn thing. My professor's very easy-going, though, so being late didn't really matter.

Then, I had a project due on Wednesday in my Language and Gender class. It was actually really interesting to write, but I just wasn't in the mood until about 9 the night before. Then, when I went to put the papers of my classmates together into one coherent piece, I ran into a little hitch. One of the group members had used footnotes, and I had no idea what rules applied to them. After a while, I gave up and just printed it out as is. We also had to give a presentation, which I felt went well.

So, I did not really catch up on my sleep at all this week. Saturday night, I came home around 10 pm to catch up on my sleep and because I was feeling a little icky (food poisoning, I believe). My roommate was there, practicing her guitar. After a while, she got a phone call. The person on the other line was obviously drunk. She left, and I shrugged it off, since the only one who ever calls her is her boyfriend.

I actually was about to go to bed at around midnight (a miracle for a weekend) when I ran into another hitch. When I pulled on the string to the florecent light above my roommate's bed, the string <em>came completely off</em>. 0.o I was dumbstruck for a few minutes. Now, it's midnight on a Saturday night. There's someone downstairs watching the desk in case of emergency, but I know from experience that the desk attendants tend to be incompetant. It will take at least two hours for someone to come, if the desk attendant even knows what number to call. So, with the light still on, I figure out how to take the light cover off and stare at the inside. After a bit of poking and proding, I figure out a way to get the bulbs out. It involved poking a black bit of plastic near the wiring while tugging on the long bulb itself. It sparked quite a bit as I tugged. 0.o A bit scary, actually. But, I managed to get both bulbs out without dying or shocking myself too much.

Just before I went to sleep, my roommate returned and I explained the situation to her. She had her own story to tell. Apparently, her boyfriend had gotten so wasted that he couldn't get back to his dorm room alone. Then, he dropped his room key in the elevator shaft. -__- So, she had him in our dorm's lounge on the couch and was planning to spend the night with him to make sure he was alright. Personally, I wouldn't date a guy who drinks in the first place, let alone someone who would put me through all that crap.

Ah, college life. Bzzzt!

hahahahha!!!

Glad to know I wasn''t the only one that had last minute crams. XD
And sitting in the lobby at 2 am as various furniture made it''s way up and down the elevator with the doors opening on every floor... followed somewhat later by a frantic looking freshman running the stairs asking about a chair...
*snort*
Good times. <.< Little sleep.
Little sense. XD
But fun!

And the days the a/c was broke and I was on the 4th floor of the dorm (my beta died from the heat) so we all slept outside on the lawn... until the water balloons came from the all male dorm beside us... XD

Ooooh yeaaaah.
Good times.
Little sleep.
Little sense.
But fun! ~_^

*funeral march for the beta* ;_;

Heh, glad to see that I''m not alone in the madness! One day, I''ll look back and laugh. Probably not today . . .

. . . except where that term paper is concerned. I got an A. 0.o Now *that''s* going to stop me from procrastinating. I even got a comment from my professor saying that I have a "very mature writing style." ^_^ I won''t ever miss it, but I''ll laugh about it.

Mmmm . . . vanilla shakes.

Oh boy, do I remember doing this all too well. -_- The typical college life I tell you LOL. Cramming all the way until class starts, not showering, not eating, not sleeping. And I''m crazy enough to tell you that I actually miss being in college LOL! As bad as I used to procrastinate, I did manage to always get my assignments done on time. This is when I realized that I work very well under pressure. I never did my work early, never. The ONLY time I did, I did horrible on the paper. All the other times when I just let it sit there til the morning it is due, I manage to get A''s/high B''s on them. Maybe you are the same way too... :)

Tsk. Believe me, I wanted to accomplish something on my spring break, but did I do anything? No - I watched TV and surfed the net xD
