The Lengths We All Go to

Have you ever noticed that once you get an idea in your head, you will often go to tremendous lengths just to get what you desire? Believe me, I'm no exception.

About two weeks ago, I was out shopping when I noticed that the brownie mixes were on sale. Now, normally, I never buy sweets while I'm at college, because that means I'd have to pay for them. :P I have this weird adversion from paying a lot of money for food, especially for food I don't neccesarily need. That simple fact explains why I gain so much weight when I go home for the summer or winter break. But, I was just back in school, meaning that the eating habits I developed over the summer were still in effect. So I picked one up on a whim, along with some vegetable oil.

Upon arriving home at my dorm, I suddenly received an epiphany--I have no cake pan. All I have is a pot and a skillet. No problem, I'll just borrow one from the desk. But when I get there, the only way that they're better off than me is that they have a cookie sheet and a cupcake pan--not your best brownie-makers. So I forget it for about a week.

But I now have this box of brownie mix staring at me from the top shelf in my dorm. Every so often, it calls to me. Now, I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with an entire plate of brownies. I might eventually finish them off. So I was completely open to the idea of sharing them if another would share her cake pan with me. So I put up a note, as I'm not sure who has pans on my floor. I tend to eat at strange hours, so I hardly ever see anyone else cooking their food.

The note is up for a while, and I noticed a pair of cake pans sitting in our shared kitchen sink. Okay, I have no idea who they belong to, but surely they've seen my note on the fridge. But no one answers it, and the pans remain in the sink. One day, two, three . . . I finally decide that if they're there the next day, I'm going to wash one myself, make my brownies, and greedily hoard them until I manage to polish them off.

Today is the appointed day. I washed the pan, set the oven to pre-heat, and scurried off to my room, (temporarily) pilfered pan in tow. Upon reaching my room, I discover one more crucial fact--I have no large bowl in which to mix these puppies. But . . . I have a pot!!!! I happy pour my ingredients into a stovetop pot, humming as I go. I also do not possess a whisk or large spoon-like mixing implement. But I have a cereal spoon! So my brownies are now in the oven, and they should be done in about five minutes.

Back to the original point of the post, think of all the crap we go through to get things in life, whether it be sweets, cels, anime, or just "your way." We lose sleep, we loose money, we loose patience. We go through five minutes of agonizing torture waiting for the auction on ebay/YJ to end. *refresh* *refresh* *refresh* Sometimes, that five minutes turns into half an hour, but we don't even realize it. We pouce on sale/offer periods, waiting for that reply email, terrified that someone got there before us--I'm sure this feeling was a lot more rampant in the days of amazing dealer updates. But you know what? It's worth it in the end. When you open that package and smell that paint, when you chuckle at the lines coming out of Kon's mouth, when you hear someone say, "Okay, you're right." And you know what? I'm sure going to enjoy my brownies. They should be done by now. Hmmm . . . I don't think I have a hotpad . . .

LOL, flashback to living in the dorms and having no utensils ^_^. Seems you did a wonderful job of making due Klet...it''s funny how items that were just there before, are missed when they''re not anymore. My biggest mistake was not taking a can opener ^_^! Enjoy the brownies, it sounds like you earned ''em!

I know exactly what you mean about the auctions. I generally bid before I go to work, and then I end up in front of the computer refreshing the screen every few minutes. It really doesn''t make for well used time but I don''t usually care :). Anyway, enjoy the brownies!
