I'm Freaking Out!
last modified: Sunday, May 18, 2008 (10:22:07 AM)
I know this is my second blog in 3 weeks, and I’m not trying to over-blog, but I am freaking out.

My very sweet, nearly 11 year old Dwarf Rabbit, Chestnut, is having surgery on Thursday. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer 2 years ago, which has been very stable until recently. The doc’s and I initially decided to hold off on surgery due to the risks from his age and the fact that he has upper respiratory problems, but it seems now we have reached a point where we have to do the surgery, as the testicle is starting to change. Chestnut is on a lot of meds, most of which he likes (thankfully ^_~), and he is a very active, happy bunny. I am scared at the thought of using anesthesia on him. I believe the procedure itself is not that invasive, and relatively quick, although I know the doc will be taking extra precautions so it may take a bit longer. For the past month, I’ve been doing some research about surgery on older rabbits, and have heard some positive stories from the net, and successful stories about other rabbits the doc has performed surgery on, but I’m still super worried. Chestnut is my baby. ^_^

Any vets or pet owners out there with positive surgical stories on older rabbits or other animals? ^_~

I’m completely freaking out

Try talking to Misa, who does Bunny Rescue.

I bet that she has some good stories and/or advice.

it''s only natural to worry over a pet we consider a family member.

just out of curiousity, dwarf mean like it''s a muniature rabbit? i know that might sound stupid but was wondering.

I''m here for you. Last year, my dog had to have surgery. He had bladder stones. We''d known about them for a while but since they weren''t causing him any real health issues we didn''t do anything about them. My dog has a heart condition so he''s high risk for surgeries. Well, infections started happening so we were told to go to a specialist, who performed surgery on my dog 3 days after he turned 12. Last month, he turned 13 and is the happiest little camper around bladder stone free but still with his heart condition. He takes 3 different meds twice a day but you would never be able to tell. ^.^

Hang in there! I''m sure your vet will do everything possible and be extra careful.

Don''t worry..I hope that ever thing goes well ^_^
My puppy had some tubes inserted in her to give her some nutrients (after almost dying of chocolate poisoning) and now she is all healthy...
